Ahwatukee Fast Facts
-
- Ahwatukee is a high demand area because of the quality of life and proximity to some of the best parts of the Valley.
- Ahwatukee, an Indian word meaning “house of my dreams” or “magic place of my dreams,” is located just 15 minutes south of downtown Phoenix. Ahwatukee is actually part of Phoenix AZ, but because of Ahwatukee’s distinct and strong identity, it is sometimes perceived as a separate town.
- Ahwatukee is highly regarded for its public school districts, preschools and private schools. All 24 schools in the Kyrene Elementary District are viewed as the premier schools in the East Valley for academic achievement.
- New shopping centers, restaurants, and entertainment abound. You can get virtually anything you want in Ahwatukee – plus – having the advantage of being close to all the amenities offered in a large metropolitan area.
- Late 2019 is the target for opening the 22-mile, eight-lane freeway connecting the Chandler and West 59th Avenue interchanges along I-10. The $1.7 billion project also will affect what residents see when they look at the mountains as crews begin blasting mid-year to carve a 200-foot-wide freeway path across three South Mountain peaks.
